Reece James 'first name' on Real Madrid's list, reason why it 'won't be easy' explained (reliability: 4 stars)

According to Spanish media outlet AS, Reece James is the first name on Real Madrid's list of potential signings at right-back.

The La Liga giants aim to provide some competition for Dani Carvajal who is already 31 years old.

James has been linked with Real Madrid for a while, and there's little doubt that their interest is genuine. However, even they accept that it 'won't be easy' to deal with Chelsea.

The Blues are not used to selling their best players unless they are left with no other options. Real Madrid know that well as they pounced on both Thibault Courtois and Eden Hazard who had only a year left on their contracts and would not renew with Chelsea.

James, by contrast, has recently signed a new deal that runs until 2028. Even though Chelsea need to make sales to meet the Financial Fair Play requirements, the 23-year-old is one of the last players they want to offload.
