Why does Thomas Tuchel wear a red ribbon? It's with him since treatment after Chelsea sacking - explained

At his unveiling as the new Bayern Munich head coach, Thomas Tuchel was spotted wearing a thin red thread on his arm.

As it happens, it's a result of his trip to India where he went for Ayurvedic treatment after his dramatic sacking from Chelsea.

According to the Ayurvedic Institute, this practice aims to 'create this balance of body, mind and consciousness according to one’s own individual constitution'.

The thread is called kautuka or kalava and is used in some religious rituals. Hindus believe that it acts as a defence against enemies and symbolises long life.

Tuchel has been profoundly influenced by his trip to India which lasted for several months before he returned to Europe and eventually took over at Bayern.
