Thiago Silva, talented centre-back & 2 other Chelsea players with contracts up in 2024
The majority of Chelsea players are now on long-term contracts due to Todd Boehly's policy of giving deals that run for seven or more years.
However, there are a few players whose contracts expire next summer. Chelsea have to decide their futures soon to avoid a repeat of the Rudiger case.
Ian Maatsen. The full-back has decided to stay at Chelsea for the 2023/24 season and his performances will likely determine whether he remains at the club long-term. A new deal is said to be in the pipeline but has not been signed yet.
Thiago Silva. The veteran centre-back can probably play until the age of 100 as he remains one of Chelsea's best players aged 38. The decision on extending his deal will probably rest with him.
Lucas Bergstrom. The Finnish goalie is unlikely to stand any chance of competing for the no. 1 spot with Chelsea signing talented keepers in Slonina and Petrovic.
Alfie Gilchrist. The Academy captain completed the US tour with the first team but it's hard to see him getting any minutes with the senior side considering the competition at the centre-back. He was the only defender nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season last year so you can see there's a potential in Alfie.
