'He prefers to play in the centre': Maresca explains how he plans to use Nkunku

Enzo Maresca considers Christopher Nkunku mainly as a No.9, the Chelsea head coach told a press conference as he broke down his attacking options.

He said: "As left wingers, we have Jadon and Misha [Mudryk]. As right wingers, we have Noni and Pedro. As attacking midfielders, we have Joao Felix and Cole. As a No. 9, we have Nicolas, Christo and Marc. We do not have so many players, we have two players for each position.

"We used Christo as a No.9 in the last game for the last 10 minutes. He is completely different to Nicolas in terms of qualities and skills.

"Nico is a No.9, Christo we can use as a No.9 but in a different way. I am completely happy with the squad we have – not only Christo and Nico – and the players are versatile.

"We can use Christo as a No.9 or in the pocket. He didn’t like to play wide as he prefers to play in the centre, but sometimes in terms of balance, sometimes players have to play in positions that aren’t always best for them. The important thing is they adapt and try to give their best."

Nkunku started only one Premier League game this season, and he did that on the left wing. To be precise, that happened before the arrival of Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho.

A good manager experiments to know his strongest team & best formation. Maresca didn't do this pre-season & previously complained that he couldn't work with 44 players at a time. Two games of 11 a side would have rectified that & given him chance to swap players about, use different formation to discover this information. I have previously had & run several semi pro clubs so know how these things work. As you can see from the amount of "likes" & similar comments it is not just myself who would like to see Jackson & Nkunku play upfront together

we all know that nkunku is better than Jackson, this is Jackson's second Season in the epl he should prove himself this season, Chelsea can't rely on Jackson next season

You people talk too much. First season, he scored 17 goals and its a joke to you? Hypocrites, that’s what I call people who talk this way.
