The Independent claim Barcelona were following the progress of Chelsea's revelation Billy Gilmour for several years.
The Scottish teenager used to play for Rangers when Barcelona first noticed his skills. The Catalans learnt Gilmour's profile perfectly well but failed to land him. Chelsea always were the best-placed contenders to land the wonderkid. Eventually, he joined the Blues for just €590,000 in 2017.
Barcelona could now deeply regret missing out on the promising midfielder. Gilmour has only made his first-team debut for Chelsea this season, however, he has already helped his side to eliminate Liverpool from the FA Cup.
Gilmour completed the full game against the Reds and excelled with his calmness and composure on the ball. The deep-lying midfielder kept the opposition at bay with a number of crucial interventions. Chelsea won 2-0 thanks to their talented starlet.
So far this season, Gilmour has made six first-team appearances for Chelsea.
