La Liga president Tebas hits out at RFEF for moving Supercopa de Espana to Saudi Arabia
La Liga president Javier Tebas isn't particularly happy with RFEF's decision to move the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia. However, it isn't only human rights violation that doesn't sit right with Tebas, but also numerous breaches of the broadcasting rights.
"I really respect TVE's decision. We've already been saying that Saudi Arabia isn't a suitable place to host the Supercopa," Tebas said speaking at the Kosmos Sports Summit.
"Not only for human rights. They've been pirating Spanish and European football for two years through a paid television backed by the Saudi Arabian government.
"This business could cost us tens of millions of euros and we're going to play [the Supercopa] there. I think the money that is being taken from European football in TV retransmissions is now financing the Supercopa."
As a reminder, the draw for the Spanish Super Cup has seen Barcelona facing Atletico Madrid, while our La Liga rivals Real Madrid will be playing Valencia in the semi-final clash of Spanish Super Cup. Super Copa will take place in Saudi Arabia from January 8 to 12.
Do you think Tebas is right here?
