Ronald de Boer backs Frenkie de Jong to become Sergio Busquets' eventual successor

Dutch great Ronald de Boer has heaped praise on the fellow compatriot Frenkie de Jong. He has outlined the midfielder's quick adaptation to Barcelona and predicted he is going to become the next Sergio Busquets one day.

De Boer told BarcaBlog: "If he’s going to play as a central midfielder, I’m sure he’ll be successful. He is a controller, you should not ask him to score 20 goals, he is not such a player. I am sure he will be a great successor to Busquets in the future."

De Jong has been a constant in Barca's midfield since he arrived from Ajax last summer. He's made 37 appearances for the Catalan giants so far this season, scoring twice and setting up another four goals.

However, there have been claims that Barca are using the Dutchman wrongly.

At Ajax, De Jong used to play as a pivot, either in a 4-2-3-1 formation or 4-3-3. However, he is now playing closer to attack at Barca, as his best position is occupied by Sergio Busquets.

Tribuna.com have recently suggested replacing Busquets with De Jong in Barca's traditional 4-3-3 formation:

Thus, De Jong and Arthur — the two undisputed starters — will have to team up with Arturo Vidal, if they want more attacking power, or with Ivan Rakitic, if they want more control.
