Barcelona to trigger 2-year extensions in Mingueza and Puig's contracts: Fabrizio Romano (reliability: 5 stars)

"Oscar Mingueza and Riqui Puig clauses will be triggered to extend both contracts until June 2023," reliable Fabrizio Romano has just tweeted.

The La Masia graduates are out of their respective contracts at the end of the season. Barcelona, however, have options to extend both deals automatically by two more years.

Mingueza and Puig have made 32 and 21 appearances respectively across all competitions this season so far.

Agreed: Barca set to extend Oscar Mingueza's contract by 2 years (reliability: 4 stars)

In 2018, Oscar Mingueza signed a deal with Barca that elapses in the summer of 2021.

However, there's a unilateral option in the contract that allows Barca to extend his stay at Camp Nou until 2023. Given that Koeman is impressed with the defender, Barca have now decided to keep him for at least 2 more years, Mundo Deportivo reports

Mingueza has proved himself reliable in Barca's rearguard standing in for the injured Gerard Pique. The young Spaniard has played 19 times in La Liga contributing a goal and an assist.

The 21-year-old has also helped Barca keep 8 clean sheets in the league. His impressive performances have attracted suitors from around the country and abroad, including the likes of Sevilla, Valencia and Everton.

Mingueza's surprising rise, Moriba and Puig's compatibility: Ex-youth team coach on Barca's talented youngsters

Franc Artiga, an ex-Juvenil A (Barca's U19 team) said in an interview with EsportsRAC1: "Oscar Mingueza has surprised us all. It's hard to believe that a player comes to the first team he competes better than he did at lower level teams."

Discussing Ilaix Moriba, he added: "Meanwhile, Ilaix is different, we all bet he would get to the first team. He competes better in the face of big challenges.

"llaix and Riqui Puig are totally compatible. Riqui has everything of our idea of Barcelona football, sooner or later he will end up exploding and will be fantastic for the first team. Ilaix also understands our game."

Moriba has made 5 appearances for the senior side in La Liga this season, scoring 1 goal and assisting 3 more. Mingueza has played 19 times in the league, with Puig scoring 1 goal in 10 appearances.

The trio of youngsters are part of Barca's next generation and it's great to see Artiga's positive assessment of these talented stars.

The message is harsh but to be honest i hate koeman's attitude in puig well talented distance shooter midfielder, always creates more key passes despite playing lesser minutes. Am not saying should be a starter but should be given more chances.

Sadibou Bajo, Koeman told Puig to go loan in September and I hate Riqui's decision to spend the whole season on the bench instead of proving Koeman wrong elsewhere.

Den Schepanskyi, no, our loan choices are bad. i don't know why we are choosing good team to loan our players. some players only want to play for their club so i respect puig's decision

Den Schepanskyi, so in that case is no more technical reason but rather Puig must be punished for not going on loan. This is funny and childish from Koeman. Puig is not playing because of performance but rather Koeman's ego and useless sentiments.

why is koeman overusing pedri when he can rotate with puig who plays in same position, koeman plays pedri like he has no centre midfielder left and he is the only one. Appreciate koeman for what he is doing for the club but this is one factor where he is wrong.

LM10_Abraham, maybe Koeman is more qualified to make such decisions? I think that there's a reason for him not to play Puig and if Riqui wants to prove Koeman wrong, he needs to go on loan.

he may have a reason to not play puig, maybe koeman is trying to push puig to Improve more. Puig is actually outstanding when koeman gives him last 5 or 10 min and it makes everyone think he should definitely start but what I have noticed is when he starts a game ,he may not give the impact pedri gives to the team. That maybe one reason. Koeman has started puig once or twice If I m not wrong and subbed him out after 45min. It maybe one reason. I maybe wrong
