Koeman drops really promising hint about Messi's Barca future
"Since I became a coach here, I've always had very good contact with Messi. We talked about the club, the team and the changes we wanted to make. I've never had a moment in which I thought: 'He wants something different'," Ronald Koeman has told VI.
Leo Messi is now expected to sign a new 2-year deal with the Catalans. Joan Laporta's arrival, as well as Barca's Copa del Rey win under Koeman, are said to be the main factors determining Leo's Barca future.
As a reminder, the Argentine's current deal with Blaugrana runs until July which means that he's already free to talk to other clubs.
'In recent months he looks happier. That’s important': Pique positive on Messi's extension with Barca
“I couldn’t tell you what’s going to happen with him. I think in recent months he looks happier. That’s important. He impacts the team because he is the captain and influences the whole team. The club is doing very well and much of it is because of him,” Gerard Pique told Movistar when asked about Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona.
“Messi has been with us in the team for several years. We know him well, and we will support his decision. We should be grateful for what he has done,”
Leo is out of contract in June and won't extend it until the end of the season.
