Roberto considering Barca exit, unhappy with extension offer (reliability: 4 stars)

Sergi Roberto's contract at Barcelona expires in 2022 and the club is yet to open official talks over a possible extension, ARA's reputable Xavi Hernandez Navarro reports.

It's said that the Catalans' idea is to offer him a short-term deal on lower wages, with the La Masia graduate set to turn 30 next year. Barca can no longer afford his salary of €9m per year.

Although his preferred option would be to continue at Camp Nou, Roberto is considering other future options, the same source adds. He's unhappy with the club offering him a one-year extension only.

Meanwhile, Sergi has suffered a relapse which will reportedly see him sidelined for several months, making him unavailable for this summer's Euros.

In total, the 29-year-old made 20 appearances for Barca this term, scoring a goal and providing two assists.

'I'm going through tough times physically and mentally': Sergi Roberto sends message amid fresh injury

"When things go wrong it's time to wake up and do everything in your power to change it. I am going through tough times, both physically and mentally, but I am convinced that good things will come," Sergi Roberto writes via Instagram.

"With work and positivity as I have always done because I want to return to enjoying what I like most and especially to be at 100%! Thank you all for your messages of encouragement!" he adds.

Sergi Roberto is partly responsible for Barca's unwanted result against Levante. The player entered the pitch after the half-time break and put in a very poor defensive performance before picking up an injury.

The Spaniard could spend a few months on the sidelines following his relapse.

Barcelona confirm Roberto's injury, Sergi expected to miss remainder of the season

Sergi Roberto is 'suffering from tendon discomfort in his right rectus femoris', Barcelona have just confirmed.

The same problem had ruled the 29-year-old out for around four months of action earlier this season. Roberto suffered a relapse in Barca's 3-3 draw at Levante on Tuesday.

Even though the club haven't put any timeframe on Sergi's recovery, reliable AS journalist Javi Miguel says that the Spaniard is set to spend around 3-4 weeks on the sidelines and thus miss the remaining clashes with Celta and Eibar.
