"[Koeman] knew when he went [to Barcelona] that it was a difficult time," Ronald de Boer has said in an interview with Marca.

"The departure of players like Luis Suarez affected the dressing room, especially [Lionel] Messi, but the team did well by winning the Copa del Rey. It was a shame, they were close [to winning the league title], but in the last games they couldn't fight for La Liga.

"Some blamed him [and] said he was responsible, but Koeman made Barcelona believe, something that had been lost. He made them see that they could beat anyone, and Messi got back his figures. He has done a good job.

"I do not understand what is happening. Laporta is a great person, but it is strange to act like that.

"Telling a coach to wait 15 days with an open mind I think is unprofessional [and] arrogant. I think that Ronald doesn't deserve it.

"I don't know if he's going to continue, I think it's the only option there is. It's a weird situation, it's not the best way to do things. Let's hope he stays and continues to prove himself. He deserves it."

According to reliable reports in Catalonia, Laporta asked Koeman for 15 more days to finalize negotiations with other candidates in a private meeting last week before confirming the current head coach's stay at Barca for another season.

On Tuesday, however, the club's president claimed that he sees the Dutchman 'closer to staying than leaving' Camp Nou.

Laporta: 'I see Koeman closer to staying than leaving'

"It's one of those questions I can't fully answer, but the conversations are going very well," Joan Laporta replied when asked about Ronald Koeman's potential sacking from Barcelona this summer on Tuesday.

"This period of reflection has gone well. I see more chances of a one [him staying] than a two [him leaving]."

As per reports, the president is now looking for a Koeman replacement. The Dutchman, however, will continue at the helm of Barca if Laporta fails to find one in the next few weeks.

Laporta confirms there's still no decision made over Koeman future

During Sergio Aguero's official presentation at Barcelona, Joan Laporta was asked to comment on Ronald Koeman's future.

"I already said that we have started a period of reflection [in regard to his future], for the reasons I said. As he was a coach that we did not appoint, we needed that period to think over.

"I've already said that the coach has a contract and we are willing to respect it during this reflection period. The contacts with Koeman continue. We will see how it develops, I can say that we are doing well."

Following the meeting between Laporta and Koeman, TV3 reported that the president has taken 15 days to find a new coach and, in case he fails to find a replacement, the Dutchman would continue.

Reputable Diario AS journalist Javi Miguel has claimed that the president will make a decision in regard to Koeman's future by the end of the week.
