'With Messi and Neymar, we looked like The Beatles': Ernesto Valverde

"I move with small, compact cameras and take black and white photos," Ernesto Valverde has said at the opening of his own art exhibition.

"Private spaces don't interest me, I usually take photos of fans from the bus, at the airport... When we were travelling with Messi and Neymar, we looked like The Beatles," the 57-year-old added.

"In Greece [Valverde coached Olympiakos], realised that it was much better to win because the Greek fans are incredible when you win but if you don't, it gets complicated. In a derby, we beat AEK 6-0 and the fans prevented the players from picking up their cars for a week."

Well, Valverde's musical reference is clear: just like Messi and Neymar (and the rest of the Barcelona team), the legendary Liverpool band gathered huge crowds at their live shows.

Ernesto Valverde opens first art exhibition with his own football photos

Our former manager is turning his favourite pastime into something more than just a hobby.

Ernesto Valverde has officially opened an art exhibition, placing football photos made by him over the past 12 years.

The exhibition is called The Other Side and represents pics of football fans Valverde stumbled upon during his time as manager.

The Spaniard managed 5 teams since he started doing photography: Olympiakos, Villarreal, Valencia, Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona. You may imagine how special his photos are.

"I thought I would dedicate myself to photography but I ended up being a coach.

"The photos were not made in a deliberate way. I try to show and see those [people] in front of me. They [the fans] are not really different, they could be on our side too," Valverde explains.

Valverde comments on Koeman situation as he makes first public appearance in months

"Changing coaches happens regularly in all teams, not only at Barca. You can win many times, but when you lose, the coaches are the first to be changed. The demand is very high and the public demands changes," Ernesto Valverde has said at the Hoy por Hoy programme.

Valverde himself was dismissed as a Barcelona manager right in the middle of the 2019/20 season. Quique Setien, who succeeded him, didn't impress much as his replacement, though.

Ronald Koeman is currently in a similar situation. Despite showing some promising signs in the middle of the season, the Dutchman has recorded a few losses and gave away the title. His future is currently up in the air.
