Barcelona are clear that Riqui Puig will stay with the first team next season, according to RAC1.

A loan move isn't considered at all as Ronald Koeman is expected to give the midfielder more game time, it is explained.

Barca will soon extend the 21-year-old's contract, as was earlier revealed by Fabrizio Romano. Puig's current deal expires in 2023.

The midfielder accumulated just 561 minutes of play last season, scoring one goal.

"I had many problems because I was much smaller, and I had to find solutions that other players maybe didn't," Riqui Puig said in his interview in the Made in La Masia program on BarcaTV.

"Good jam comes in small jars," Puig added.

Puig also spoke about being compared to Xavi.

"I don't know if there is anything or not, I think every player is unique, and comparing a player to a legend like Xavi is hard. I'm proud that people compare me to Xavi, even if I'm 1% of the player that he was."

The 21-year-old has found playing minutes difficult to come by under Ronald Koeman. The midfielder appeared in 14 league games for Barcelona this season.

Through the campaign, Puig started just 4 games for the Blaugrana. As a result, The midfielder's output has slumped from 7 goal contributions last season to just one in 2020/21.

"Barcelona have officially triggered Riqui Puig's clause to extend his contract until June 2023. Riqui wants to stay at Barca after the club turned down two loan proposals in January. He's gonna talk about it with Joan Laporta once the manager situation is decided," Fabrizio Romano tweets.

Earlier, it was reported that the 21-year-old would possibly leave the club on loan in the summer.
