Ex-presidential candidate Freixa backs Laporta amid criticism over Pimienta dismissal

The Barcelona fans didn't take well the news about the club's decision to sack Barca B coach Javier Garcia Pimienta, with many criticising Joan Laporta. Perhaps unexpectedly, former presidential candidate Toni Freixa has spoken in support of his former rival.

"I don’t understand the criticism of a management team for taking decisions, that is just why they have been chosen," Freixa has tweeted. (h/t Diario Sport)

"Another thing is whether people chose conscious of what they were choosing, or the opposite, they were driven by those who from now on will applaud everything."

Pimienta wasn't the first person to be axed by Laporta, however. Since the president assumed office, at least eight coaches and officials have been dismissed.

As for Freixa, he was one of the three candidates to run for office back in March. He finished behind Victor Font and current president Laporta.

'Beyond shocking': Some Cules unimpressed with Laporta's decision-making as he keeps Koeman but axes Pimienta

The decision to dismiss Barcelona B coach Garcia Pimienta came as a surprise for everyone, including Pimi himself, as claimed by various sources.

Given that some Cules really wanted Ronald Koeman out last month, these two decisions have made them doubt Joan Laporta's competence as president.

@Youngcules: "Koeman outlives Pimienta, who has been the greatest coach of the entire club since Lucho left. Remodelling or not, it’s beyond shocking. Pimienta had full control and respect over another phenomenal generation of talents coming through and would’ve shaped more first-team players."

@IFrankensteinxx: "If Koeman got a second chance Pimienta should really be getting one too. Hope Laporta knows what he's doing."

@LaPulga__10: "Koeman stays. Pimienta sacked. He deserved to be treated better for staying and gifting these club talents for more than 20 years."

@__Kaufmann: "Garcia Pimienta sacked, Koeman still the first-team coach lmao. Laporta sacked the wrong bottler!"

@andi_FcB_: "The most disgusting thing is telling him that he will continue only to receive a phone call today telling him he will not just like in the case of guess who - Suarez. What we called out Bartomeu and Koeman for. Just saying. Bad treatment for Pimienta."

@bleedsblaugrana: "Laporta firing Garcia Pimienta after giving Koeman another season. Where it should've been Koeman fired and Pimienta promoted. Pure and utter nonsense. There is no Cruyffismo at the club anymore."

Laporta 'changes Barcelona's code of ethics' to hire his sister Maite

Barcelona have hired Joan Laporta's sister, Maite Laporta, according to MARCA.

The president's relative will be responsible for Barca's Inclusion and Diversity – this is the new area created by the club to develop Barca's strategy regarding cultural diversity.

To carry out the hiring, the new board of directors 'changed Barca's code of ethics' that had been intact since 2010. Until now, it was prohibited to tie relatives to a Barca contract up to the fourth degree of affinity, the source explains.

Besides, the club needed to perform a selection procedure before hiring a new person. Laporta's sister surpassed a few other people who contested for the job.
