'I ask the Spanish fans to keep trusting us': Pedri reacts to his 'dream' Euro debut

“I am happy to make my debut, it has been a dream, but I am sad to draw the game, we have played great and created chances,” Pedri told the post-match presser after Spain's 0-0 draw with Sweden on Monday, as quoted by Marca.

“If we continue to play games like this, having the ball and creating chances, then the goals will come.

“I ask the Spanish fans to keep trusting us, as we are a great team.”

The Barcelona midfielder became the youngest player to ever represent Spain at a European Championship after starting against Sweden at the age of 18 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Pedri was arguably the best player on the pitch but his effort wasn't enough to help Luis Enrique's crop kick off their road to the Wembley final with a victory.

Although Spain failed to win the match against Sweden, Pedri had a great debut at the 2020 Euros. The 18-year-old was arguably the best player on the pitch as he was the key figure in Spain's build-up despite his shallow experience. Obviously, Pedri's masterclass didn't go unnoticed by the Barcelona fans and even the neutral fans on Twitter.

EiFsoccer: "Despite playing in a midfield with Thiago, Koke, Rodri, and now Fabian, it’s young Pedri who’s been the brightest. The only one who’s tried to make things happen. Testament to his ability — crazy to think some Barca fans turned on him during the season."

Trent_Warcelona: "I hope this performance shuts all the Pedri haters up. Thank goodness he's ours."

paleszhurts_: "What Pedri is doing in the last 15 minutes that is what I want to see more next season. Kid ain't normal."

BugaLuisFC: "It's honestly surprising how much creative responsibility Pedri already has in this Spain team. It's clear to see that he is essential to Luis Enrique's game plan. The whole of the forward line and the midfield substituted and Pedri still remains."

tsf_podcast: "Amazing how much responsibility Pedri has in this team already. Ball going to him time and time again."

IFrankensteinxx: "Pedri is playing like it is his 30th Euro appearance. Quality player."

LaComputadora14: "Watching Pedri tonight you'd think he's 25. What's striking for me isn't his immense technical ability but his personality on the pitch. Never hiding."

G_Samito: "Pedri was by far the best midfielder on the pitch tonight. Even though he was quiet in the first half."

The Sweden game was Pedri's only fourth one for Spain. The 18-year-old played full 90 minutes, recoded 94/104 passes, 93% passing accuracy, 8/9 long balls, 1/2 dribbles, 2/4 ground duels and won one foul.

Pedri breaks 41-year-old record as he's set to start for Spain at Euro 2020

Barcelona's midfielder Pedri has been included in Spain's starting XI for the match against Sweden at the 2020 Euros. Aged 18 years, 6 months and 21 days, the midfielder becomes the youngest player to ever represent La Roja at a European championship.

The previous record belonged to Miguel Tendillo who played for Spain at Euro 1980 aged 19 years, 4 months and 11 days. That was 41 years ago. Besides, Pedri is the sixth youngest player to ever play for La Roja.

Spain's full XI against Sweden is as follows: Simon - Llorente, Laporte, P. Torres, Alba - Rodri, Koke, Pedri - F. Torres, Morata, Olmo.
