'Yet to prove his quality': Fan explains why he rates Laporta just 3/10 so far

Although most Barca fans are slightly delighted with Joan Laporta's second presidential spell so far, some of them believe Joan didn't have the start to be proud of.

In particular, the decisions to keep Ronald Koeman and sacking Garcia Pimienta were received with criticism.

Here's how our active user Tay King puts it.

"Keeping Koeman seems more of political and financial reasons and not sporting as he himself was ready to sack him by giving the condition of getting another. 3/10.

"Sacking Pimienta for no stated reason and appointing a coach of no success record for Barca B seems another political move and not sporting. 2/10.

"Signing 3 players - Garcia free, Aguero free and Emerson whose half was already part of Barca is a good move but not unique ones as Garcia and Aguero were already on way to Barca and Emerson's half is Barca (he has tried on wage bill though). 5/10.

"Total: 10/30 = 3/10

"Being frank, real signings that involve money and player exchange will show his quality. Which player to sacrifice, how much we get in selling and how much we spend," Tay concludes.

Do you agree that Laporta should be judged mostly for the signings he will make?

Koeman: 'Laporta knows I'm the best man for Barcelona'

"I have had a good conversation with president Laporta. He now also knows that I am the best man for the club," Ronald Koeman has told NOS when asked about his Barca future.

Many Blaugrana fans were waiting for Xavi to be in charge of the team starting from the next season. However, after Laporta supposedly had negotiations with some other candidates, he preferred to stick to Koeman.

Earlier this month, Joan Laporta announced Ronald Koeman's stay. The Dutchman may soon sign a new deal that could potentially keep him at the club until 2023.

Koeman has been in charge of Barca since August 2020, leading the team to the Copa del Rey glory.

The 58-year-old has won 2.09 points per game with Blaugrana.

Koeman opens up on Wijnaldum choosing PSG over Barca

In a recent interview, Ronald Koeman was asked to comment on Georginio Wijnaldum choosing Paris Saint-Germain over Barcelona.

"I spoke with Gini about his signing and in the end, he took a decision. He had to look at the situation of Barcelona [with my future undecided]," the coach has said, as quoted by Diario Sport.

"He also did not have clarity about his future and then someone else intervenes. Yes, that is stupid."

The Catalans wanted to land Wijnaldum on a free transfer but PSG intervened. It's been reported that the Parisiens offered him a way bigger salary, although the midfielder denied it in a recent interview, saying that the French club was simply faster.
