Moriba isn't extending Barca contract because of his agency — fan remembers player who left his club due to same agents

The recent updates on Ilaix Moriba's extension at Barcelona have been rather negative. While the player's intention is to continue at Camp Nou and wants an agreement to be reached as soon as possible, Beteve say that the agency that represents the 18-year-old, ROGON, keep insisting on bigger wages.

Meanwhile, Twitter user and Barca fan AlexTruica recalls Max Meyer leaving Shalke 04 back in the day because of the same agency.

"Ilaix Moriba's new agency is the German agency ROGON. They represent Max Meyer - maybe you’ve heard the famous story: Meyer didn't extend his contract at Schalke because ROGON asked for a ridiculous salary for the "world-class player" Meyer, who then ended up going to Crystal Palace for free," AlexTruica has tweeted.

"At the mid-table club Crystal Palace, Meyer struggled to make the squad, never became a starter in two seasons. He terminated his contract by mutual consent in winter and went to 1. FC Koln - a relegation-threatened club. Not even there the "world-class player" could make the squad.

"FC Koln stayed in the Bundesliga - Meyer didn’t play for them in the most important games. At all. The half-season trial ended, Koln didn’t sign him.

"Now the "world-class player" Max Meyer is without a club, his market value plummeted. Thanks to his greedy agent and agency ROGON.

"I just hope ROGON do a better and more sensible job at representing Ilaix Moriba than they did with Max Meyer. And I hope Ilaix is smarter to make the right call and to not blindly trust his new agent/agency. What happened with Meyer should serve as a cautionary tale for Ilaix."

It's said that Moriba has not rejected two offers from Barca to extend his contract. For the record, it should be mentioned that the Catalans made Ilaix the best-paid youngster at La Masia when he signed his current deal back in 2019.

For now, the 18-year-old trains with Barcelona B as the club has decided to separate him from the first team until the issue is solved.
