 have reached a final agreement over a contract extension, Diario Sport's reliable Lluis Mascaro reports. 

The 34-year-old is set to sign a deal until 2026 with a 50% pay cut, it's said. The official announcement is expected to follow in the coming days.

Over intense negotiations with Jorge Messi, Leo's father and agent, the parties have reached common ground. The captain's intention was to continue at Camp Nou ever since Joan Laporta became president.

The only remaining detail is for the club to lower the wage bill so they can register the Argentine for 2021/22 

. The Catalans are currently in talks with several heavyweights over pay cuts, while other players are expected to be offloaded.

Messi is currently on vacation on Ibiza. Leo will not join the pre-season until he puts pen to paper.

, 18 years of age at the time, is making rounds on the Internet. Here are some of the best parts of it.

1. Maradona introduced Messi as the 'future of all Argentinians'. It seems like Diego did have a good eye for the talent, as Leo had only been promoted to 

's first team in 2005, the year the interview was filmed. 

2. Diego started by saying that he had watched the Joan Gamper game against 

 in which Messi was being fouled a lot by the Italians. "Yes, they kicked the sh*t out of all of us, not just me. They're used to playing like that," Leo admitted.

3. The two Argentinians went on to discuss Messi's debut for the senior national team. It was an unlucky one, as the Blaugrana player was sent off after just two minutes on the pitch. Diego claimed that the red card was undeserved since the Hungary player pulled Leo's shirt first, and it had to be a yellow for both. The latter agreed.

4. Argentinian actress Mirtha Legrand came into the studio as well. She asked Messi where he was from and when did he land in Argentina, but Leo seems too shy to answer. Diego has to join in and say that the youngster arrived on the day of the recording.

5. In the end, Messi gifted Maradona a Barca shirt. "I have been wanting to do it for some time, and today I have the chance. I wanted to give you this," Leo said as he handed Diego the shirt. The latter thanked Messi and wished him all the success in the world. Leo was visibly nervous during the interaction, he held the mic too far away from his face and his words were barely intelligible.
