Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign 20-year-old Senegalese defender Alpha Dionkou. He will join Barca B.

Here are the 5 key things to know about the new signing.

He could play at both wings

Alpha Dionkou is naturally a right-back who could also play on the left, just like Sergino Dest.

The Senegalese is great offensively, so he was even used as a wide midfielder on a few occasions.

He has one senior trophy in his career

Surprised?

The truth is that Dionkou was part of Manchester City between 2018 and 2021. The defender was part of the squad that won the Carabao Cup in 2020.

He also won the U21 Premier League title with the Citizens.

He has experience of playing in Spain

Dionkou is joining Barcelona from Granada.

Despite making no first-team appearances for the La Liga side, the player has played 14 games for third-tier side San Fernando.

He has represented two countries

Dionkou made 4 appearances for Spain U17 before switching to Senegal U20 to play 5 matches for the youth side.

Seems like the player will now represent Senegal: in 2020, he was once called up to the senior team but didn't play a single minute.

His agency represents some ex-Barca players

Perhaps the most well-known player represented by MagicPlayers is Oriol Romeu who used to play for Barca's youth sides before leaving for Chelsea in 2011.

Romeu is currently a Southampton star.
