Speaking in his press conference ahead of Man City's game against West Ham, Pep Guardiola said: "I would love for Bernardo [Silva] to continue here, a very special player in the locker room.

"But I don't know what will happen. What happens will happen, if he stays is perfect, if he has to leave it's because football is like this.

"But at the same time if you want to leave, have an offer, clubs come to an agreement. It's common sense. He's an important player, special, but I don't know what will happen.

"We didn't get any offer, last season either. Bernardo's ready, training well for Sunday," Guardiola concluded.

Earlier, it was reported that Barcelona have told Man City they will make a bid for Silva soon. That may depend on some variables, like Frenkie De Jong staying or leaving, and La Liga Financial Fair Play regulations.

However, Guardiola has told the Portuguese in clear terms that he's a vital part of his squad.
