Hristo Stoichkov recommended Barcelona to sign Alphonso Davies when he was just 17 years old in 2018, reveals Diario Sport's Alfredo Martinez.
The Catalans could have signed the talented defender for just €5m at the time.
Stoichkov worked as an analyst on TV and carefully watched the Canadian wing-back's progress.
When Josep Maria Bartomeu was offered the chance to sign Davies, the ex-Barca president reportedly answered: "He's Canadian, no, thanks."
Davies played for Vancouver Whitecaps back then. The same year, he would join Bayern Munich for €10m to become one of the best left-backs in the world.
The 21-year-old also impressed against Barcelona on Tuesday – particularly with his pace that was crucial to his defensive trackbacks.
