'ASAP': Barca want to extend Dembele's contract before World Cup for 2 key reasons

Barcelona will take advantage of the upcoming break to negotiate new contracts with several players, but their absolute priority is Ousmane Dembele, Mundo Deportivo's credible Gabriel Sans reports (5 stars)

In fact, the Catalans want to extend Dembele's deal as soon as possible and plan to offer him a new deal until 2026.

First of all, Barca are afraid to lose the winger after the World Cup if he performs at a good level. Ousmane has a release clause of just €50m and any interested top club would be able to afford it.

And second, Blaugrana want to avoid the situation from last summer when Dembele became a free agent for a short while. The Frenchman's current contract expires in 2024.

Dembele, meanwhile, is aware of Barca's intentions and is open to extending his stay at Camp Nou. The continuous support and confidence he has received from Joan Laporta and Xavi have been key.
