Cesar Azpilicueta was a target for Barcelona last summer as Xavi saw him perfect for the right-back position. However, the Spaniard decided to extend his contract and continue at Chelsea despite interest from Camp Nou.
In a recent interview with Cadena SER, Azpilicueta revealed the reasons behind it.
"I had played under 30 games for Chelsea and was a free agent already. This had never happened to me before. But then the new owners came and they showed that they wanted to keep me," Cesar said. (h/t Diario AS)
"London is my home and my kids speak better English than Spanish. When I made the decision, I think that Xavi understood it."
Failing to sign Azpilicueta, Barca went for Hector Bellerin. However, the 27-year-old has failed to impress the coach and is expected to leave at the end of the season.
