Roberto wants contract extension but won't accept new pay cut, Barca stance revealed (reliability: 5 stars)

Sergi Roberto's current contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the season, and the vice-captain's priority is to continue at Camp Nou, the credible Toni Juanmarti of Relevo reports.

However, the 30-year-old will only accept an offer on the same terms, he isn't open to another pay cut after lowering his wages by 50% last summer.

At the moment, there is no definitive decision over Roberto's future, though. Barca want to see how the player will perform in the next months before talking to him.

The coaching staff is satisfied with Sergi and would like him to continue. On the other hand, the board would rather see the veteran leave due to his high wages.

In case Roberto isn't satisfied with what the Catalans are offering, he'll turn to the proposals he has on the table. The right-back prefers continuing in Europe to moving to the MLS.

This season so far, Roberto played 12 matches (6 starts) for Barca and contributed with 2 goals and 2 assists. He's recovered from injury and will be available for selection once club competitions resume.
