What Philippe Coutinho exit from Aston Villa would mean for Barca? Explained

Philippe Coutinho is edging close to Aston Villa exit. What would it mean for Barcelona?

Coutinho joined Villa from Barca last January on an initial loan deal, before the Premier League club agreed to sign the Brazilian on a permanent basis six months later.

He left Camp Nou for €20m, which is almost eight times less than what he joined us for back in 2018. Barca, however, retained a 50% stake in any profit that Aston Villa made from Coutinho’s future sale.

The 30-year-old is reportedly not part of the club's plan anymore and is likely to leave in winter. The only club showing interest in the player is Corinthians.

The bad news for the Blaugrana is that any fee that the Brazilian club agrees with Aston Villa would be well short of the €20m fee that they received from Villa.

This would mean that their sell-on clause would be rendered useless.
