'He's been a spectacular signing': Xavi praises Marcos Alonso after solid El Clasico performance

After Marcos Alonso's great outing in El Clasico, Xavi showered the 32-year-old with praise and hinted that he could start against Valencia on Sunday too.

"His performances have been really good. He's adapted very well to the centre-back position," the Barcelona coach said.

"He's winning aerial duels and covers his space well. He is quick for a player of his stature and he helps us in the build-up. I am very happy to have Marcos on the team, he's been a spectacular signing."

With Andreas Christensen suffering a minor blow, Alonso took his place in the starting XI in the match against Real Madrid. The Spaniard delivered a solid defensive performance, winning 7/11 duels, making 10 clearances and 2 tackles.

Barca initially signed Marcos to offer competition to Jordi Alba but the 32-year-old has proven useful at centre-back too.

Sometimes, experience counts and helps in battle. The only problem Barca faces is the gap of experience between the young and old…. We are looking like these young players like peak players and expect them to act like peak players…we just need patience, which most Barca fans don’t have.

Xavi is doing some fucked up shit too and that’s coz of his inexperience. Imagine if it was Luis Enrique coaching this team. The boiz would be more than matured by now or half way there.

All this wisdom for just one man, most fans don’t understand but keep blaming Xavi despite all he’s doing
