Not just injuries - Lewandowski means reasons why Barca crashed out of Champions League

In his recent interview with Barca TV, Robert Lewandowski opened up on the reasons behind Barcelona's group stage exit in the Champions League earlier this season.

"In the first part of the season, the five or six injuries we suffered complicated the things for us. We have a very young squad and it was a learning experience for all of us," Mundo Deportivo quote the striker.

"It was difficult for us, especially in the Champions League where small mistakes sometimes cost you dearly. If you want to win the Champions League, you can't make the mistakes we made. We fought until the end, although it might have been too late."

Lewandowski is right, the UCL elimination was a combination of factors. Xavi couldn't count on regular starters like Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, and Andreas Christensen during some of the crucial games.

At the same time, there were big mistakes like Lewa's misses in the first game against Bayern Munich and Gerard Pique's blunder in the home clash against Inter Milan. When the veterans misfired, it was difficult for our 19-year-olds to step up; and that normal if you consider their age.

And, of course, some of the blame is on the coach for his questionable squad picks -- Marcos Alonso and Hector Bellerin got more playing time than they perhaps deserved.
