'Goal disallowed because some guy saw it from a telescope far away': Valverde complains about VAR in Barca match

Athletic Bilbao scored the equaliser at San Mames tonight but VAR overturned it for a handball on Iker Muniain in the build-up.

Here's what it looked like.

Despite the ball clearly touching Muniain's hand, former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde complained about the decision in the post-match presser.

"It's not normal that no one on the field sees nor protests anything, but you disallow the goal because some guy saw it from a telescope far, far away," Valverde said.

"It's not a question on whether the ball touched his shoulder or not. It's a question of what football is. It's silly that someone has a telescope that records what's going on from a far, and takes decisions even though no one on the pitch saw it.

"VAR is supposed to be there for correcting blatant mistakes: Whether a ball goes in or not, clear penalties, clear mistakes... but to call the referee because a player barely rubs his shoulder with the ball is absurd."

Valverde should be reminded that any kind of handball in attack is an immediate foul. And if the referee didn't see it, that's why we have VAR.
