Eric Garcia played his first senior match as a defensive midfielder against Elche as Xavi heavily rotated the squad. The player seemed happy with his new position in the post-match interview.
"I am happy to help the team in whatever position the coach wants me to. Xavi really believes that I can play as a pivot. It is a bit more tiring than playing centre-back," Eric said.
"I see myself playing where the coach needs me to. I am a centre-back but if I have to play in midfield, I'm excited to. I have the attributes to play there."
Garcia delivered a solid performance in midfield as he completed 89% passes and contributed defensively too. The Spaniard used to play as a pivot in the early days at Barcelona's academy but switched to centre-back eventually.
The 22-year-old also revealed that it was the coach's intention to rotate the squad ahead of the crucial cup tie against Real Madrid next week.
"Xavi told us at the start of the season that everyone will be important. We have an important game on Wednesday, so all the players get their chances. I think we had a great performance."
