As reported by multiple reports, including the highly-reliable Gerard Romero (5 stars), Barcelona representatives met the agent of Uruguayan agent Fabricio Diaz on Monday.
Here are the key things to know about the 20-year-old.
1. Interest and price
Diaz's team Liverpool Montevideo want €8m for the midfielder. Villarreal, Flamengo, River Plate, and a club and Portugal also follow Fabricio. The Uruguayan is expected to feature at the U20 World Cup in May-June and wants to sort out his future afterwards.
Barca have informed Diaz's entourage that they cannot make an offer immediately since they are still waiting for La Liga's response regarding Financial Fair Play, Mundo Deportivo (5 stars) say.
2. Profile
Standing 1.76m tall Diaz is not the most physical player but definitely a mobile one. Diario Sport note that the 20-year-old's best attributes are his passing and positioning. Fabricio primarily plays as a pivot but can also be deployed in a more advanced position in midfield.
Barca believe that the youngster will be able to adapt to the team quickly thanks to said qualities.
3. Experience
Although he is only 20 years old, Diaz has a lot of experience under his belt. Fabricio made his debut on February 2, 2020, one day before his 17th birthday.
He established himself as a regular starter for Liverpool Montevideo the same year. Since then, the midfielder has made 115 appearances and contributed with 5 goals and 7 assists. Despite his age, Diaz is already Liverpool's vice-captain.
4. He met Araujo and Suarez
Fabricio was part of Uruguay's extended squad for the 2022 World Cup. Although he did not go with Qatar with the senior team, he got to spend some time together with them where he met Luis Suarez and Ronald Araujo.
