Lewandowski's Pichichi trophy called 'the cheapest one' in over 20 years

Diario AS call Robert Lewandowski's 2022/23 Pichichi 'the cheapest one' in 21 years.

The Pole's 23 goals were enough for him to win La Liga's top goalscorer award this season. The last time so few goals were needed was in 2001/02 when Deportivo's Diego Tristan won it with 21.

The source adds that Lewandowski 'hasn't really had any competitors' this season since Karim Benzema had a discreet campaign while the other pursuers simply weren't good enough.

This sounds like Lewandowski's achievement is being underestimated. It's actually impressive how quickly the 34-year-old managed to adapt to a completely new league and hit over 30 goals across all competitions. It's not his problem that 'there were no competitors' this time.

As a reminder, here are the final Pichichi rankings.

1. Lewandowski: 23 goals.

2. Benzema: 19.

3. Joselu: 16.

5. Griezmann: 15.
