In an interview with Sport, Lionel Messi has opened up on if he even had talks with Barcelona manager Xavi or president Joan Laporta on a possible return.
He revealed: “Actually, I spoke very little with President Laporta, once or twice at most. With Xavi I do have a lot of communication.
“Yes, obviously yes. I followed Xavi all year and I wanted Barça to win trophies, like all Barcelona fans. And even the first year too, I talked a lot with Xavi after a few games. I followed him closely.
“With Xavi, we talked about the possibility of me coming back. We were very excited. We kept in communication. Barcelona sent me an offer, but never sent me an official, signed, written offer.
“So many things have been said, so many things have been leaked, so many lies were told, but I cannot go out and deny everything that's being said.
“When the media mess with my family and start talking about things they don't know anything about, that bothers me a bit.”
So it’s cleared by Messi himself that he did have talks with Barca officials over a move. However, he didn't get an official offer that could actually convince him to rejoin the Blaugrana - which is why he opted to join Inter Miami.
