'Cry somewhere else': Di Maria reacts to Bayern legend calling Messi's Ballon d'Or undeserved
"Go cry somewhere else 😂" Angel di Maria has replied to Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus who claimed that Erling Haaland deserved the Ballon d'Or more than Leo Messi.
"Haaland has done better than Messi for the entire year. It's undeserved that Messi won. But that shows that a World Cup counts more than anything else," Matthaus told Sky Germany.
"For me, Haaland is the best player of the last twelve months. He won major trophies with Manchester City and broke goalscoring records in the process. For me, there is no way around Haaland. The choice is a farce, even though I am a Messi fan," the 62-year-old also said.
For some reason, these pundits forget about Messi's great numbers at a club level last season. He ended up as the player with the most assists and the most goal-creating actions in Europe's top 5 leagues.
It's not just the World Cup – Leo made sure he was consistently great throughout the season too.
