Robert Lewandowski to miss Poland's Euro 2024 opener as extent of injury revealed

Poland have suffered a major blow after confirming that Robert Lewandowski suffered a torn biceps femoris muscle in their recent 2-1 win over Turkey.

The Barcelona forward had to be substituted after struggling to move around properly after being involved in a nasty challenge.

It appears that he's suffered a bad enough knock that will keep him out of his side's opening game against the Netherlands on Sunday (June 16).

The Polish team's official Twitter account revealed: "Robert Lewandowski suffered a torn biceps femoris muscle, which will exclude him from participating in the first match of the tournament.

"We are doing everything so that Robert can play in the second match, against Austria, says (team doctor) Jacek Jaroszewski."

Lewandowski will have to fight against time to be fit for the second game against Austria on 21 June. It's one Poland must win to have a chance of getting out of their tough group, which also features France.
