Former Spain midfielder Santi Cazorla has come to the defense of his friend and fellow Spaniard Xavi Hernandez who was sacked as Barcelona coach last May.

Cazorla, who currently plays for Oviedo, expressed his admiration for Xavi's dedication to Barcelona: "I know Xavi feels for Barcelona what I feel for Oviedo."

He praised Xavi's decision to take over the club during a difficult period, citing his "love of the club and wanting to help."

Cazorla highlighted Xavi's success in promoting young players, such as Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, who have since emerged as world-class talents.

He also noted that Xavi led the team back to competing for trophies, including winning the LaLiga title in 2023 and the Spanish Super Cup.

Despite these achievements, Cazorla believes that Xavi was treated unfairly by the club.

"They were unfair with him, and he's suffered a lot," Cazorla said, revealing that he has spoken with Xavi and knows that he has had a difficult time.

However, Cazorla is confident that Xavi will return to coaching in the future. "He wants to rest now and spend time with his family, but in the future, he will coach again," Cazorla predicted.
