Peter Schmeichel reacts to Gianluigi Donnarumma's controversial Yashin Trophy win

On Monday, legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel wrote on Twitter: "Congratulations to Gianluigi Donnarumma on winning the Yashin Trophy.

"A deserved winner! Proud of Kasper Schmeichel [his son] for being acknowledged as one of the best."

Donnarumma was named the winner of the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper of the year, by France Football earlier this week.

Many fans believed that the prize should have gone to Edouard Mendy who played a key role in Chelsea's Champions League triumph last season.
