'We were competing for years': Lionel Messi opens up on Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry after 7th Ballon d'Or win

In an interview with France Football after winning his seventh Ballon d'Or, Lionel Messi said: "I always wanted to improve myself and not look at what others could do.

"With Cristiano [Ronaldo], we were in competition for years within the same league.

"It has been wonderful and it has served us both to continue to grow in our respective careers - but without necessarily having an eye on each other.

"I just wanted to challenge myself to be the absolute best and not to be better than anyone else." 

The PSG superstar's record win has irked several fans who believe Robert Lewandowski deserved the award.

it's not a fact that he has been the best player for two yrs...he may be the most lethal striker for the past 2 years, but definitely not the best player....even with the goals, the difference is not up to 10 goals.
what about other attributes that make a player?
Messi deserves what he won by all standards...and lewi also deserves the throphy he was given this yr..period!
