Bayern's Alphonso Davies diagnosed with mild myocarditis after Covid-19 recovery

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies will be sidelined for at least several weeks after his club detected signs of heart muscle inflammation. The Canada international has just recovered from a case of Covid-19.

"Yesterday, during our follow-up examination that we do with every player that has had Covid-19, we detected signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. an inflammation of the heart muscle," Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed, as per Goal.

"He has stopped training for now, so he won't be available to us for the next weeks.

"This myocarditis isn't too dramatic based on the ultrasound, but more simply signs of inflammation. Nevertheless, it needs to heal and that will no doubt take some time."

It's not clear when Davies returns to action. Bayern will hope that the 21-year-old will be back for the RB Leipzig game in the Bundesliga on February 5 or the first leg of a Champions League last-16 tie with Salzburg on February 16.
