Responding to the Poland football federation president claiming the Polish national team won’t play their FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff game against Russia next month, Robert Lewandowski tweeted: “It is the right decision!
“I can’t imagine playing a match with the Russian National Team in a situation when armed aggression in Ukraine continues.
“Russian footballers and fans are not responsible for this, but we can’t pretend that nothing is happening.”
The Russian national team is scheduled to face Poland and Sweden in two Qatar World Cup qualifiers, but there are major doubts whether that’ll be allowed to happen after Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.
UEFA or FIFA are yet to make an official statement on these matches and it remains to be seen whether they take sanctions against the Russian side.
