England players booed for taking knee before 'behind closed door' game in Hungary

The Nations League game between Hungary and England was supposed to take place behind closed doors as punishment for the racist behaviour of the Hungary fans during Euro 2020.

However, UEFA rules permit an unlimited number of kids under 14 to attend such games for free, as long as every 10 children are accompanied by one adult.

As a result, over 30,000 fans gathered at the Puskas Arena on Saturday evening - and continued the tradition of booing the players for taking the knee before the games.

According to Sky Sports, UEFA will not be able to punish Hungary further as booing the knee gesture is not against their rules.

"I have no idea why people would choose to boo that gesture and very often young people can't know why they're doing it so they're being influenced by older adults - everyone knows what we believe and what we stand for," England manager Gareth Southgate said after the game.

"What I would say is, I hear that still in our stadiums as well. That's why we do it and continue to take that stand and we will keep doing that as a team."
