Luis Enrique hints David De Gea will never play for Spain again

Speaking about his goalkeeper options, Spain head coach Luis Enrique said: "I look to have three starting goalkeepers and I think that right now I have them.

"A goalkeeper should start the play and generate the first superiority, they must dominate the aerial play.

"I need a goalkeeper that transmits peace and calmness to me, that doesn’t mean they won't make mistakes, errors are part of football."

Enrique left David de Gea out of his Spain squad, selecting Athletic Bilbao's Unai Simon, Brighton's Robert Sanchez and Brentford's David Raya instead.

The Manchester United man remains a top-class shot-stopper, his distribution was never world-class and questions remain over his aerial dominance.

All this probably means that the 31-year-old goalkeeper is unlikely to play for Spain again as long as Enrique remains in the head coach role.
