Brazil legend and footballing icon Pele has died aged 82. As the tributes pour in from all across the world, we take a look back at the iconic name.

In an old interview with Sky Sports, Pele had revealed the story behind the name Pele, even though his name really was Edson Arantes do Nascimento.

He had even tweeted once, letting his fans know the name his family call him, saying 'nicknames are a way of life in Brazil.'

Pele was hospitalized in November as his colon cancer became worse before he finally passed away on December 29th at the age of 82.
