Ruud van Nistelrooy quits PSV, club 'regrets' his decision

Former Man United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has quit as PSV head coach.

PSV are 10 points behind champions Feyenoord and three points ahead of third-placed Ajax with one more game left in Eredivisie. They have already secured a Champions League qualification spot.

The news came as a surprise for PSV bosses.

"Van Nistelrooy told the first-team squad and coaching staff that he would be stepping down with immediate effect, due to a lack of support within the club," the club said in a statement.

"PSV regrets his decision and is grateful to him for winning the Johan Cruijff Shield and the Dutch Cup, and hopes to finish the season in second place."

In his only season at the club, Van Nistelrooy led PSV to KNVB Cup (the Dutch cup) and Johan Cruyff Shielf (the super cup)
