Valencia player Mouctar Diakhaby refuses to hold anti-racism banner as sign of protest to La Liga

Valencia centre-back Mouctar Diakhaby refused to join his and opposition teammates to hold an anti-racist banner made by La Liga.

The reason is that two years ago, Diakhaby claimed to be a victim of racist abuse by Cadiz player Juan Cala but the case was never resolved.

The whole idea with this banner comes after the shocking abuse Vinicius Jr suffered at Valencia's home ground. A significant section of Valencia fans chanted 'Monkey!' at the Brazilian, and it's not the only stadium in Spain where it's happened to Real Madrid's star.

The controversy was further fuelled by the response from La Liga authorities, most notably President Javier Tebas who pretty much blamed Vinicius, although shortly after he seemed to change his tune.
