'He is where he is': Agent Jorge Mendes breaks silence on Cristiano Ronaldo split

A few months ago, Jorge Mendes and Cristiano Ronaldo parted ways after years together following Ronaldo's transfer to Al Nassr.

Ronaldo chose to burn all the bridges with Man United with a controversial interview to Piers Morgan as Mendes was reportedly against it.

Despite the split, the super agent cherishes Ronaldo both as a footballer and a person.

Mendes told A Bola: "Life is like this. Cristiano is where he is.We all have to be grateful to him for what he did for Portugal. Cristiano will always be in my heart. He is a special player and a special person for me.

"And all of us Portuguese should be proud to have had and still have a player like him. I've always said it and I'll say it all my life: he was and is the best player in the entire history of world football! I don't have the slightest doubt.

"You have to see what he managed to do. Football is goals! There's a lot of strength there and a lot of work too. He's an example for young people and he's done everything a great professional would have to do... because he's the best of them all!

"When he was young he was different. You were talking about Ronaldinho Gaucho and Messi, but when he was young, Cristiano was also like that, strong one-on-one and explosive!

"[Then] Cristiano has turned into a machine! Many people never really thought about that growth process that led him, in fact, to be the best in history. And for me, he will always be the best in history."

Ronaldo, 38, is not quite having an amazing spell in Saudi Arabia. His team were top of the league when he joined but ended up losing the league title with a game to spare.

Cristiano can only console himself on a solid 14 goals in 16 games, although it wasn't like he scored in every game.
