'Definitely a player we like': Gareth Southgate names Scotland footballer he'd want for England

Gareth Southgate has revealed that England is keeping a close eye on a player from their next opponent, Scotland.

As England prepares to face Scotland in a friendly fixture at Hampden Park, the focus isn't just on the match but also on potential talent acquisition. Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson's situation is being closely monitored by both nations.

Anderson had a breakthrough season with Newcastle last year and has continued to impress this season. Born in England, he qualifies for Scotland through a grandparent on his father's side. He has represented both Scotland and England at youth levels and has yet to commit to either country at the senior level.

According to the Daily Star, Southgate said: "We liked him and we do like him. We think he’s a player that’s doing really well. Obviously, he was called into their squad earlier in the week and I don’t know what the position is at the moment. I saw he’s pulled out."

"Let’s see, that’s something that John McDermott and others at our organisation will be picking up. He’s definitely a player we like."

Anderson has not yet played a competitive international match, but according to reports from the Scottish Sun, he is reconsidering his decision to represent Scotland.
