Dispute goes into the next round: Goalkeeper Manuel Riemann initiate legal action against VfL Bochum

20 August 2024, 19:08

In May of this year, VfL Bochum released its regular goalkeeper Manuel Riemann shortly before the end of the season while continuing to pay his salary. This measure was justified with “irreconcilable different opinions on team content issues”. According to official club information, it was not a “suspension or punishment”.

Since then, Riemann has still not been admitted to training. Now the dispute between VfL Bochum and Riemann is entering the next round: he sued the club. The Sportbuzzer portal reports, with reference to official information from the labor court in Bochum, that Riemann claims to take part in the training of the professionals.

In the summer, Bochum signed two new goalkeepers, Patrick Drewes and Timo Horn. Riemann's contract with Bundesliga is valid until summer 2025. VfL offers Riemann the opportunity to take part in U21 team training or to train individually with a goalkeeping coach.

According to Sportbuzzer, the conciliation hearing in this matter will take place next Friday. Riemann is said to have not yet accepted an offer from the association for an amicable settlement.

The reason why Riemann was released in May is still unknown. According to reports, he had repeatedly clashed with fellow players.
