According to The Telegraph, Lee Carsley does not want to be the next permanent England manager.
The former Everton midfielder was thought to be the frontrunner for the job. However, speaking after the 2-1 defeat to Greece, Carsley said: 'Hopefully I’ll be going back to the Under-21s'.
Members of the England set-up are not reported to be convinced that Carsley is not interested in taking over for the long term.
Carsley is yet to say definitely whether he wants the job, while the FA has not commented on the search process and whether the U21 head coach is indeed the favourite to take over the senior national team.
Alternative options are believed to have been sounded out, though. Pep Guardiola is their dream candidate, while the list also includes the likes of Graham Potter, Eddie Howe and Thomas Tuchel.
