- Yesterday, Liverpool decided to place some of its non-playing staff on furlough.
- Although they will be paid 100% of their salaries, 80% of the same will come from the British taxpayers.
- This decision has received major backlash as the likes of Jamie Carragher and Danny Murphy have called out the club for its actions.
- According to a report by The Athletic, Liverpool players are equally frustrated by their club's decision.
It has not been a good 24 hours for Liverpool Football Club. The board's decision to furlough payment of some of the non-playing staff has not gone down well with the general public, with many disappointed in the club's actions.
According to a report by The Athletic, Liverpool players are not too pleased about this decision either.
This is primarily due to the club's choice being considered as the wrong one, combined with the fact that this announcement came on the same day when news broke of captain Jordan Henderson's noble initiative to form a Premier League relief fund which would involve all other clubs in the league.
The article reads: "Henderson, along with Milner, wanted the division’s players fully unified before an announcement about the pot of money."
"There was also said to be frustration among Liverpool players that the club had announced the decision to furlough staff just as their captain Henderson had received public acclaim for attempting to rally support for the NHS."
The article also states that despite Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur (amongst a few other clubs) also placing their staff on furlough, Liverpool's decision is the one receiving the most backlash.
"Liverpool’s decision, in particular, provoked a public backlash as the club announced a pre-tax profit of £42 million on revenues of £533 million only five weeks ago."
This is a bad look for owners Fenway Sports Group, who have clearly upset the fans as well as their own players.

morally this is just WRONG
You are right my friend. Wrong thing to do, it's peoples lives there dealing with.
get it sorted. fucking joke THIS MEANS MORE MY ARSE
As much as we have all praised Fenway Sports group for their contribution to Liverpool FC since taking over, this one is really bad judgement and wrong publicity. They should apologise and do the right thing. If not history won't forgive them. Liverpool FC doesn't need this. We're bigger and better than that.
