Sunday's clash between Mainz 05 and Augsburg was extremely disappointing for the Reds' loanee at Jurgen Klopp's former club, Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Nigerian attacker suffered a nasty blow to the head in the 23rd minute and had to be stretchered out. Mainz eventually lost the game 0-1.
The winger was taken to the hospital immediately after the incident. On the bright side, he was said to be conscious and was even talking in the ambulance.
This season, Awoniyi has scored just one goal in 11 games for Mainz. However, the Bundesliga outfit have reportedly opened talks with Liverpool over keeping the 22-year-old on loan for the next season.
Awoniyi's contract with the Reds expires in the summer of 2023. Since his arrival at Liverpool in August 2015, the striker hasn't played for the Reds in official games, spending time on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, KAA Gent, Royal Excel Mouscron and now Mainz 05.
